Write For Us
CSS Magazine is always looking for talented writers with fresh perspectives on American life. If you can report clearly, argue thoughtfully, or explain a complicated subject in a way that respects the reader’s time, we want to hear from you. Contributors have the opportunity to reach a growing national audience across News & Politics, Business, Technology, Entertainment, Sports, and Health & Lifestyle.
What We Look For
We publish reported features, explainers, analysis, trend pieces, and practical guides. The strongest submissions share a few qualities: a clear angle we have not covered before, solid research backed by credible sources, and writing that is engaging without being sensational. We are especially interested in pieces that help readers understand how national stories affect their everyday lives — their wallets, their health, their communities. We do not accept press releases disguised as articles, promotional content for your product or client, plagiarized or AI-generated submissions passed off as original work, or previously published material.
Submission Guidelines
Most published pieces run between 800 and 1,500 words. Articles must be original, written in clear American English, and supported by links to reputable sources for all factual claims. Any personal or financial connection to the subject of your piece must be disclosed up front. All accepted submissions are edited for clarity, style, and accuracy, and must meet the standards described in our Editorial Policy. We reserve the right to edit, schedule, or decline any submission.
How to Pitch
Please pitch before you write. Send an email to editorial@cssmagazine.com with the subject line “Pitch: [Your Topic]” and include: a working headline, a two-to-three sentence summary of your angle and why it matters now, the section you are pitching for, and a brief note about who you are, with links to one or two writing samples if available. First-time contributors are welcome — a great idea matters more to us than a long resume.
What Happens Next
Our editors review every pitch and typically respond within five business days to submissions we intend to pursue. Due to volume, we cannot reply to every pitch, and silence after two weeks generally means we have passed — but you are always welcome to pitch again with a new idea. If your pitch is accepted, an editor will work with you on scope, deadline, and any terms before you begin writing. We look forward to reading your ideas.
